Mercury 30 HP Outboard for Sale

The Mercury 30 shares its smooth three cylinder engine with the Mercury 25, tuned for extra power. It is a natural fit for skiffs, RIBs and small console boats that need more performance than a 25 but do not want the weight of a 40. Mercury offers it in tiller and remote versions with several tilt options, so you can match it closely to your boat. Here is every Mercury 30 HP outboard for sale in our stock.

Remote models

  • Mercury 30ELGA: electric start, remote, gas assist tilt, 20 inch shaft.
  • Mercury 30ELPT: electric start, remote, power trim and tilt, 20 inch shaft.

M is manual start, E electric start, L a 20 inch shaft, H tiller, GA gas assist tilt and PT power trim and tilt. Models without H are remote control.

Gas Assist or Power Trim?

Gas assist tilt (GA) uses a gas strut to make lifting the motor by hand easier. It is simple, light and needs no electrics. Power trim and tilt (PT) uses an electric pump: you can raise and lower the motor at the push of a button and, more importantly, trim it while under way to change the boat's running angle for speed, economy and a drier ride. PT is worth it on heavier boats and on boats that see varied loads.

Boats That Suit a Mercury 30

  • Aluminium skiffs and jon boats of 4.3 to 5 metres.
  • RIBs of 4 to 4.6 metres used for diving, tours or tender duty.
  • Small side and centre console boats, with remote models.
  • Work boats that need dependable mid size power.

Why the Mercury 30?

Three cylinder smoothness

Three cylinders give a smooth idle and strong pull without the vibration of a twin.

Fuel injection

Easy starting, crisp response and good economy.

Many configurations

Tiller or remote, manual or electric start, gas assist or power trim: there is a version for most small boats.

Rigging a Remote Model

Remote 30s need a control box and cables, steering, a key switch and harness, gauges and a battery. If you are converting a tiller boat to console steering, ask us for a rigging list.

Care Tips

  • Flush after salt water use.
  • Change oil and gear oil on schedule.
  • Use fresh fuel with a water separating filter.
  • Inspect the water pump, anode and prop regularly.
