Nissan 3.5 HP Outboard for Sale: The NSF3.5B2

The Nissan NSF3.5 shares its compact, light body with the NSF2.5 but adds useful extra power for carrying two people, pushing into a breeze or covering more distance. It is a simple four stroke built on engineering shared with Tohatsu, so parts are easy to source. Here is the Nissan 3.5 HP outboard for sale we currently stock.

Model in Stock

NSF is Nissan four stroke, 3.5 the horsepower, B the generation and 2 the version, which may indicate shaft length. Check the product page for the exact specification.

2.5 or 3.5?

The two motors are almost the same weight. If your boat is rated for 3.5 HP, the extra power is worth having for passengers, gear and wind. The Nissan 2.5 makes sense only if you need the absolute minimum or your boat is rated lower.

Who Buys a Nissan 3.5?

  • Yacht owners with 2.3 to 2.7 metre tenders.
  • Canoe and dinghy owners on lakes and rivers.
  • Small sailboat owners needing a light auxiliary for calm conditions.
  • Budget conscious buyers wanting a dependable four stroke.

Features

  • Light and compact for easy carrying.
  • Built in fuel tank for short trips.
  • Quiet, economical four stroke running.
  • Simple design that is easy to maintain.

Checking the Shaft Length

Measure from the top of the transom to the bottom of the hull. About 15 inches suits a short shaft; about 20 inches suits a long shaft. Confirm the shaft on the product page or ask us before ordering.

Getting the Best From a Small Motor

Keep weight forward in the boat, set the tilt so the shaft is vertical under way and avoid running flat out for long periods, since small displacement boats gain little speed at full throttle while using much more fuel.

Care Tips

  • Flush after salt water use.
  • Check oil before each trip and change it at the recommended interval.
  • Use fresh fuel; drain or stabilise it before storage.
  • Carry and store on the correct side.

Using the Nissan 3.5 on a Tender

Clamp the motor centrally, tighten the clamp screws firmly and fit a safety lanyard so it cannot be lost overboard. Set the tilt so the shaft is vertical when the boat is moving. Like most micro outboards, it is steered with the tiller, and you go astern by swivelling the motor round on its mount. Close the fuel vent when carrying the motor and lay it only on the side shown in the manual.

A Light Backup Motor

Because it is so light and compact, the NSF3.5 also makes a sensible backup motor for a bigger boat or a spare for a yacht's tender. Stored with fresh, stabilised fuel, it is ready when you need it.
