Evinrude 40 HP Outboard for Sale: The E-TEC 40
The E-TEC 40 is a light, torquey direct injection two stroke that suits aluminium fishing boats, small pontoons and runabouts. It delivers the strong holeshot E-TECs are known for, with automatic oil injection and long service intervals. Here is every Evinrude 40 HP outboard for sale in our stock.
E-TEC 40 Models in Stock

Boats That Suit an Evinrude 40
- Aluminium fishing boats of 4.5 to 5.2 metres.
- Small pontoons used for fishing and cruising.
- Light runabouts and RIBs rated for 40 HP.
- Boats already rigged for Evinrude.
Why an E-TEC 40?
Weight advantage
Two stroke E-TECs are generally lighter than four strokes of the same power. On an aluminium boat or older hull designed for lighter engines, that helps balance and planing.
Holeshot
Strong low end torque gets loaded boats moving quickly.
Low routine maintenance
No engine oil changes, long service intervals and a built in storage routine on many models.
Repowering an Evinrude Boat
If your boat already has Evinrude controls, gauges, harnesses and an oil tank, an E-TEC 40 can often drop straight in with much of that rigging reused, which saves money compared with switching brands. Send us your current engine's model code and we will check compatibility.
Tested and Running Engines
Engines listed as tested and running are started and checked before sale, including water flow, shifting and a visual inspection. Ask us for extra photos or a video if you would like more detail.
Buying an Evinrude Today
BRP ended new Evinrude production in 2020. Each listing states the engine's condition. E-TEC parts remain widely available, but local service varies, so check that a nearby mechanic works on E-TECs.
Care Tips
- Keep the oil tank filled with the recommended E-TEC oil.
- Flush after salt water use and change gear oil on schedule.
- Inspect the water pump, plugs and anodes at service intervals.
Getting the Propeller Right
An E-TEC 40 can power anything from a light aluminium fishing boat to a small pontoon, and each needs a different prop. Fit one that lets the engine reach its recommended full throttle revs with your normal load. If the engine over revs, increase pitch; if it struggles to reach the range, reduce pitch. Pontoons usually need less pitch than fishing boats.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the E-TEC 40 a two stroke?
Yes, a direct injection two stroke.
Will it fit my existing Evinrude rigging?
Often, yes. Send us your old model code to check.
40 or 50 HP?
See the Evinrude 50 HP if your boat is rated higher.
