Boats That Suit a Suzuki 115

  • Bay boats and flats boats of 5.5 to 6.5 metres.
  • Pontoons and tritoons that want brisk performance for watersports.
  • Aluminium and fibreglass fishing boats with centre or dual consoles.
  • Twin installations on larger catamarans and work boats, using Z models on one side.

DF115 Highlights

Four cylinder torque

The DF115 shares its engine block with the DF140, so in 115 HP form it has torque to spare for heavy hulls.

Offset driveshaft

Suzuki's offset driveshaft moves weight forward and keeps the engine compact, helping the boat balance and the gear case run lower in the water.

Lean Burn economy

At cruising speeds the engine runs leaner to save fuel, which matters on long runs to fishing grounds.

Choosing the Right DF115

  1. Shaft: 20 inch (L) or 25 inch (X), measured from transom top to hull bottom.
  2. Rotation: standard for single engines; one standard and one Z for twins.
  3. Finish: grey, white or the SS sport look.
  4. Generation: the DF115B is the newer design; DF115A versions are proven and often better value.

Rigging and Propellers

All DF115 models we stock are remote control engines with power trim and tilt. A full installation needs a control box and cables, hydraulic steering, a key switch and harness, gauges, a battery and a fuel system with a water separating filter. If you are replacing an older Suzuki of similar size, much of this may carry over. For propellers, aim for the engine to reach the top of its recommended full throttle rev range with your usual load. Bay boats often run well on a stainless prop for better grip and holeshot, while pontoons may need a different pitch or a prop designed for heavy loads. Tell us about your boat and we will suggest a starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Z mean on a Suzuki 115?

Counter rotation, used for one engine in a twin setup.

What is the SS edition?

Suzuki's sport styled version, popular on performance boats.

115 or 140 HP?

The two share a block. If your boat is rated for 140, the Suzuki 140 HP adds performance for little extra weight.
