Yamaha 50 HP Outboard for Sale: F50 and T50
At 50 horsepower, Yamaha offers two very different engines. The F50 is the standard four stroke for boats that want a good balance of speed and economy. The T50 High Thrust uses a lower gear ratio and a larger propeller to push heavy loads. Choosing the right one depends on your boat, and this page will help. Here is every Yamaha 50 HP outboard for sale in our stock.
Models in Stock
- Yamaha F50LB: standard four stroke, 20 inch shaft, B generation.
- Yamaha T50LB: High Thrust, 20 inch shaft, B generation.
- Our 2023 Yamaha collection also includes F50LB and F50LB listings at different prices.
F50 or T50?
The F50 is the right choice for lighter boats such as aluminium fishing boats, small runabouts and RIBs, where you want a lively holeshot and good top speed. The T50 High Thrust is built for pontoons, heavy work boats and boats that carry big loads. Its larger prop moves more water at lower speed, giving stronger acceleration with a heavy load, better control at low speeds and more effective reverse when docking. If you run a pontoon, the T50 is usually the better match.
Boats That Suit a Yamaha 50
- Pontoons of 5 to 6 metres, ideally with the T50.
- Aluminium fishing boats of 4.6 to 5.5 metres, with the F50.
- Small runabouts and RIBs rated for 50 HP.
- Work boats and ferries that carry heavy loads at moderate speeds.
Common Strengths
Fuel injected four stroke
Both engines start easily, idle smoothly and use fuel efficiently compared with older two strokes.
Power trim and tilt
Adjust the running angle on the move for speed and comfort, and tilt the engine up for launching and shallow water. Check each product page for the exact control and trim setup.
Yamaha durability
This engine family is widely used by leisure and commercial boaters, and parts support is excellent.
Rigging Your Engine
Most 50 HP Yamahas are rigged with remote steering. Plan for a control box and cables, steering, a key switch and harness, gauges, a battery and a fuel system. If you are replacing an older Yamaha, much of your rigging may carry over.
Propeller Choice
Fit a prop that lets the engine reach its recommended full throttle revs with your normal load. Pontoons with T50s use specific High Thrust props; lighter boats with F50s usually use standard aluminium or stainless props.
Looking After Your Yamaha 50
- Flush after salt water use.
- Change engine oil, filter and gear oil on schedule.
- Inspect anodes and the water pump impeller.
- Keep fuel fresh and use a water separator.
