Nissan 8 HP Outboard for Sale: The NSF8

The Nissan NSF8 moves from single cylinder portables to a smoother twin cylinder four stroke. It is built on the same platform as the Nissan 9.8, sharing engineering with Tohatsu, and gives owners a refined, quiet motor in the 8 HP class. Here is every Nissan 8 HP outboard for sale in our stock.

A3 is the generation, EF marks electric start and the final digit the version. Check each product page for the shaft length.

Who Is the Nissan 8 For?

  • Inflatables and RIBs of about 3 to 3.5 metres.
  • Small aluminium boats and punts.
  • Sailboats of 6 to 8 metres needing a smooth auxiliary.
  • Waters with an 8 HP limit.

Why Choose the NSF8?

Twin cylinder smoothness

Less vibration and a quieter idle than single cylinder portables.

Electric start option

The NSF8A3EF2 starts at the push of a button and can charge a battery, handy on sailboats.

Affordable quality

Shared Tohatsu engineering at a budget friendly price.

Manual or Electric Start?

Manual start is lighter and needs no battery. Electric start adds convenience and battery charging but needs a battery and wiring.

Care Tips

  • Flush after salt water use.
  • Change engine and gear oil on schedule.
  • Inspect the water pump, anode, plugs and prop.
  • Drain or stabilise fuel before storage.

Is 8 HP Enough for Your Boat?

For most inflatables up to about 3.5 metres, an 8 HP motor gives brisk performance with one or two people and gear, and many light inflatables will plane with a single person aboard. On small aluminium boats and punts, it pushes comfortably at displacement and semi planing speeds. On sailboats of 6 to 8 metres, it gives enough thrust to motor against a moderate headwind and to manoeuvre confidently in a marina. If your boat is heavier, or you regularly carry three or more people, look at the 9.8 HP. Always check your boat's capacity plate for its maximum horsepower and weight.

Choosing a Shaft Length

Measure from the top of the transom or bracket to the bottom of the hull. About 15 inches calls for a short shaft, common on inflatables. About 20 inches calls for a long shaft, common on sailboats and some small boats. On a sailboat, a longer shaft keeps the propeller submerged as the stern lifts in waves, which prevents the motor over revving and losing grip. Confirm the shaft length of each version on its product page, or send us your measurement.

Using the NSF8 as a Kicker

On a bigger fishing boat, an 8 HP twin makes a quiet trolling motor that saves fuel and hours on the main engine, and it doubles as a get home motor. Fit it to a bracket or transom beside the main engine and link the steering with a tie bar if you want to steer from the helm.
