Tohatsu 6 HP Outboard for Sale: MFS6 and MFS6 Sail Pro
The Tohatsu MFS6 tops Tohatsu's family of single cylinder portables. It keeps the light, carry friendly body of the 4 and 5 HP models while delivering the most push, which makes it a favourite for tenders, inflatables and small sailboats. Tohatsu also builds Sail Pro versions with longer shafts and a thrust oriented propeller. Here is every Tohatsu 6 HP outboard for sale in our stock.
Standard MFS6 Models
Sail Pro Models
- MFS6DWSPROL Sail Pro: 20 inch shaft.
- MFS6DWSPROUL Sail Pro: 25 inch ultra long shaft.
S, L and UL are 15, 20 and 25 inch shafts, and SPRO marks Sail Pro. The other letters identify version details; each product page explains them.
Who Buys a Tohatsu 6?
- Inflatable owners with 2.7 to 3.2 metre boats who want to plane with one person.
- Yacht tender owners carrying crew and supplies.
- Sailboat owners who need a strong auxiliary, ideally a Sail Pro.
- Rental fleets and sailing schools that want light, dependable motors.
Standard or Sail Pro?
The standard MFS6 is best for tenders and inflatables where you want speed and the option to plane. The Sail Pro uses a prop designed to push heavy displacement hulls, with better reverse and control in marinas, and longer shafts to keep the prop submerged as a sailboat pitches. For keelboats and cruisers, the Sail Pro is the better tool.
Key Features
- Light enough for one person to carry.
- Forward, neutral and reverse on models in this family for easy docking.
- Built in tank with external tank option on many versions.
- Simple, proven Tohatsu engineering.
Choosing a Shaft
About 15 inches suits inflatables and dinghies; about 20 inches suits small sailboats and higher transoms; about 25 inches suits tall sailboat brackets. Measure from the mounting point to the bottom of the hull.
Care Tips
- Flush after salt water use.
- Change engine and gear oil on schedule.
- Drain or stabilise fuel before storage.
- Tilt the motor clear of the water while sailing.
Using the Tohatsu 6 on a Tender
Clamp the motor centrally, tighten the clamp screws firmly and fit a safety lanyard. Set the tilt so the shaft is vertical when the boat is loaded and moving. A 6 HP motor gives a loaded tender a brisk pace for trips ashore, and with one person in a light inflatable it will often plane in calm water. Close the fuel vent when carrying the motor and lay it on the side shown in the manual.
Transport and Storage
For storage longer than a few weeks, run the carburettor dry or use stabilised fuel, and store the motor in a dry place.
Frequently Asked Questions

6 or 8 HP?
See the Tohatsu 8 HP if you need more power and do not mind more weight.
