Nissan 4 HP Outboard for Sale: The NSF4

The Nissan NSF4 opens Nissan's 4, 5 and 6 HP family of single cylinder portables. These motors share a sturdy, compact design with matching Tohatsu models, which means proven engineering, easy servicing and widely available parts. Here is every Nissan 4 HP outboard for sale in our stock.

Models in Stock

Both are 4 HP four stroke tiller motors. The final digit identifies the version, typically the shaft length; check each product page for the exact specification.

Who Is the Nissan 4 For?

  • Yacht tenders and inflatables of 2.4 to 3 metres.
  • Small dinghies and punts on lakes and rivers.
  • Day sailers needing a light auxiliary.
  • Rental fleets and clubs that want simple, affordable motors.

Why the NSF4?

Light and carryable

Easy for one person to carry, mount and remove.

Gearshift

Motors in this family typically include forward, neutral and reverse, which makes docking easier than on micro motors. Check the product page for the exact setup.

Shared parts

Parts and accessories are shared with Tohatsu's matching models, which helps with long term support.

Great value

The NSF4 is an affordable way to get a dependable four stroke on a small boat.

Choosing Between the Versions

Measure from the top of your transom to the bottom of the hull. About 15 inches suits a short shaft, typical of inflatables; about 20 inches suits a long shaft, typical of sailboats. Then choose the version whose shaft matches your measurement, or ask us to confirm.

4, 5 or 6 HP?

All three share the same body and weigh about the same. If your boat is rated higher, the Nissan 5 HP or Nissan 6 HP gives more push for little extra weight.

Care Tips

  • Flush after salt water use and check the cooling water stream on start up.
  • Change engine and gear oil on schedule.
  • Drain or stabilise fuel before storage.
  • Carry and store on the correct side.

Using the Nissan 4 on a Tender

Clamp the motor centrally on the transom and tighten the clamp screws firmly, then attach a safety lanyard so the motor cannot be lost if the clamps loosen. Set the tilt pin so the shaft is vertical when the boat is loaded and moving. A 4 HP motor moves a loaded tender at a steady displacement speed, so allow a little extra time for trips ashore against wind or current. Close the fuel vent before carrying the motor, and always lay it on the side the owner's manual shows.

Getting the Best Fuel Economy

Small displacement boats gain very little speed at full throttle but use much more fuel. Running at about two thirds to three quarters throttle usually gives the best balance of speed and economy, and keeps engine noise down.
