Yamaha 9.9 HP Outboard for Sale: F9.9 and T9.9

Yamaha's 9.9 HP motors are some of the most widely used outboards anywhere. They push sailboats in and out of marinas, troll for hours as kickers behind bigger engines, and power small boats on lakes with horsepower limits. Yamaha offers two families at this size: the standard F9.9 and the T9.9 High Thrust. Here is every Yamaha 9.9 HP outboard for sale in our stock.

F9.9: Standard Four Stroke

T9.9: High Thrust

In Yamaha codes, S, L and X are the 15, 20 and 25 inch shafts, M is manual start, E or W is electric start, P is power tilt, H is tiller and B is the generation.

F9.9 or T9.9 High Thrust?

The T9.9 uses a lower gear ratio and a larger diameter propeller. It will not go faster than an F9.9, but it pushes heavy boats with far more authority, holds steady trolling speeds better and gives more control when docking a sailboat in wind. Choose the T9.9 for sailboats, heavy kicker applications and pontoons. Choose the F9.9 for lighter boats where you want a bit more speed and lower cost.

Common Uses

  • Kicker motors: remote T9.9s can be linked to the main engine's steering and controlled from the helm.
  • Sailboats: the 25 inch X shaft and High Thrust prop are ideal for keelboats and heavy cruisers.
  • Small boats: the F9.9 powers inflatables, jon boats and small aluminium boats.
  • Horsepower restricted waters: many lakes cap motors at about 10 HP.

Choosing Your Version

  1. Shaft: measure your transom or bracket for S, L or X.
  2. Thrust: High Thrust for heavy boats and kickers; standard for light boats.
  3. Steering: tiller for open boats; remote for consoles and linked kickers.
  4. Starting and tilt: electric start and power tilt add convenience, especially on kickers that are awkward to reach.

Care and Running Tips

Kicker motors often sit unused for long periods and then run at very low speeds, which is hard on any engine. Run your 9.9 regularly, use fresh fuel with a stabiliser, and occasionally run it at higher revs for a few minutes to clear deposits. Flush it with fresh water after salt water use, check the water pump impeller and anode at each service, and change engine and gear oil on schedule. On sailboats, tilt the motor fully clear of the water when sailing to reduce drag and protect it from growth.
