The Four Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale Families

Yamaha splits its WaveRunners into ranges, and every Yamaha WaveRunner for sale on our site belongs to one of them. Once you understand them, picking one gets much easier.

EX series: the entry point

The EX models are the smallest and lightest three-seaters, powered by Yamaha’s TR-1 three-cylinder engine. They’re fun, nimble and cheap to run. Great for first-time owners, families who want a ski for the lake, and anyone on a budget. The EX Sport, EX Deluxe and EX Limited add more features as you go up, like the RiDE reverse and braking system, a reboarding step and mirrors.

VX series: the all-rounder

The VX is the most popular WaveRunner range for a reason. It’s bigger and more stable than the EX, comfortable for three adults, and still economical. Most VX models use the TR-1 High Output engine. The VX Cruiser HO and VX Limited HO step up to Yamaha’s big four-cylinder High Output engine for a lot more power. If you’re not sure where to start, start here.

FX series: the flagship

The FX is Yamaha’s luxury touring ski. Big hull, smooth ride in chop, plush seats and the most features. The FX HO and FX Cruiser HO use the naturally aspirated High Output engine. The FX SVHO, FX Cruiser SVHO and FX Limited SVHO use the supercharged 1.8 litre Super Vortex High Output engine, the most powerful Yamaha puts in a WaveRunner.

GP series: the racer

The GP1800R is built for speed and handling. It’s the ski that wins races, with a sharp hull that grips in corners. The GP1800R HO is naturally aspirated, and the GP1800R SVHO gets the supercharged engine. If you like going fast and carving hard, this is the one.

JetBlaster: freestyle fun

The JetBlaster is a smaller, playful ski built for tricks, spins and splashing around. It uses the TR-1 engine and is more about fun than touring.

Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale: Engines and Specs

Here’s how the engines compare across every Yamaha WaveRunner for sale we stock. These are Yamaha’s published figures for the engine families.

EngineTypeFound in
TR-11,049 cc, 3 cylinder, 4-stroke, naturally aspiratedEX Sport, EX Deluxe, EX Limited, JetBlaster
TR-1 High Output1,049 cc, 3 cylinder, 4-stroke, tuned for about 15% more output than the base TR-1VX, VX-C, VX Deluxe, VX Cruiser, VX Limited
High Output (HO)4 cylinder, 4-stroke, naturally aspirated; 1.8 L on earlier years, 1.9 L (1,898 cc, 16 valve) from 2024VX Cruiser HO, VX Limited HO, FX HO, FX Cruiser HO, GP1800R HO
Super Vortex High Output (SVHO)1.8 L, 4 cylinder, 4-stroke, superchargedFX SVHO, FX Cruiser SVHO, FX Limited SVHO, GP1800R SVHO

The newer 1.9 litre HO engine replaced the 1.8 litre HO in 2024 and is rated at around 200 horsepower. It came with a new intake grate on the FX HO and VX HO for better grip on the water and quicker acceleration. The supercharged SVHO is the strongest engine in the range and powers the fastest WaveRunners.

Features worth knowing about

  • RiDE: Yamaha’s dual throttle system. Squeeze the right lever to go, squeeze the left to slow down and reverse. It makes docking and getting off a trailer much easier, especially for new riders.
  • Connext touchscreen: a colour touchscreen display on the FX SVHO models, and on the FX HO and FX Cruiser HO from 2024, with a larger seven inch screen.
  • NanoXcel hulls: a lighter, stronger hull material used on the premium FX models.
  • Cruiser seats: a two-piece, more comfortable seat on the Cruiser models, made for longer rides with a passenger.
  • Cruise control and no-wake mode: on many VX and FX models, so you can hold a steady speed or idle through a no-wake zone without holding the throttle.

If you want the full spec sheet for a particular model and year, including length, dry weight and fuel capacity, ask us and we’ll send it.

Which Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale Is Right for You

The best way to choose a Yamaha WaveRunner for sale is to think about how you’ll ride.

  • Mostly lakes, calm water, short rides, tight budget: EX Sport or EX Deluxe.
  • Family riding with two or three people, towing a tube now and then: VX Cruiser or VX Deluxe. If you tow a lot or carry heavier riders, go for the VX Cruiser HO.
  • Long rides, the ocean, chop and comfort: FX Cruiser HO, or one of the FX SVHO models if you want serious power.
  • Speed and sharp handling: GP1800R HO or GP1800R SVHO.
  • Tricks and play: JetBlaster.

Towing a wakeboarder or skier needs more power than towing a tube. If that’s your plan, a four-cylinder HO or SVHO model makes life much easier. Check your local rules on towing from a PWC, since they vary.

HO or SVHO: Is the Supercharger Worth It?

This is the question I get most from people looking at the top end of our Yamaha WaveRunner for sale list. The FX Cruiser HO and FX Cruiser SVHO look almost the same, so why the price gap?

The SVHO has a supercharger. It packs more air into the engine, which means much harder acceleration and a higher top speed. It’s thrilling. It also uses more fuel when you use the power, and the supercharger is one more part to look after over time.

The HO, especially the newer 1.9 litre, is plenty quick for most people. It pulls a tube with three kids on it without trouble, it cruises easily in chop, and it costs less to buy and run.

My honest advice: if you mainly cruise, tour, fish or tow tubes, the HO is the smarter buy. If you want the fastest ski on the water, tow wakeboarders and skiers regularly, or just love the feeling of real power, the SVHO is worth it.

What Affects the Price of a Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale

Our prices run from just under $9,000 to just under $20,000. Here’s what moves a ski up or down that range.

  • The range. EX is the cheapest, then VX, then GP and FX at the top.
  • The engine. Within a range, the TR-1 models cost least, HO models more, and SVHO models the most.
  • Trim level. Deluxe, Cruiser and Limited versions add features like better seats, audio, cruise control, more storage and extra trim.
  • Year and hours. A newer ski with low hours is worth more. Ask us for both on any ski you’re interested in.
  • Extras. A trailer, cover or accessories included in a deal change the price.

When you compare a Yamaha WaveRunner for sale here with one somewhere else, compare the same model, year, hours and extras. That’s the only fair comparison.

Tips for First-Time Owners

A lot of people buying a Yamaha WaveRunner for sale from us have never owned a PWC before. A few things worth knowing before your first ride:

  • Wear the lanyard. It’s attached to the kill switch. If you fall off, the engine stops and the ski doesn’t run away from you.
  • No throttle, no steering. A jet ski steers by pushing water out of the back. Let go of the throttle and you lose most of your steering. Beginners often let go in a panic and then can’t turn. Keep a little throttle on when you need to turn away from something.
  • Learn RiDE at the dock. Practise using the left lever for slowing and reverse at low speed before you head out.
  • Check the intake before you ride. Weed, rope or a plastic bag in the intake kills performance.
  • Don’t run it on the trailer. Without water flowing through, it overheats in seconds. Only run it out of the water if you’re flushing it with a hose connected.
  • Know the local rules. Age limits, licences, no-wake zones and distances from shore all vary by country and area.

Buying WaveRunners for a Rental or Tour Business

We sell to rental companies, resorts and tour operators as well as private buyers. For fleet use, the VX is the usual Yamaha WaveRunner for sale to pick. It’s stable, forgiving for beginners, economical, and the TR-1 HO engine is tough. Some operators also run a few FX models for premium tours.

If you’re kitting out a fleet, tell us how many skis you need and where they’re going. We’ll quote a container load, which brings the cost per Yamaha WaveRunner for sale down a lot, and we can include trailers, covers and spare parts in the same shipment.

WaveRunner vs Sea-Doo vs Kawasaki

We sell the other big brands too, so here’s an honest take on how a Yamaha WaveRunner for sale stacks up.

  • Yamaha WaveRunner: known for reliability, simple maintenance and strong resale value. The engines are proven and parts are easy to find.
  • Sea-Doo: lots of features, some clever designs, and the very affordable Spark at the bottom of the range.
  • Kawasaki Jet Ski: powerful engines and a strong performance image.

All three are good. Many buyers pick Yamaha because they want a ski that just starts every time and doesn’t cause headaches. You can see everything we have on our jet skis page, including Krash stand-ups.

Accessories Worth Adding

Most people who buy a Yamaha WaveRunner for sale add a few things in the first season. If you’re ordering a ski from us, it often makes sense to add them to the same shipment.

  • A cover. Keeps sun, rain and dust off the seat and hull. UV damage to seats is one of the most common signs of a neglected ski.
  • A trailer sized for your ski, or a double trailer if you have two.
  • Life jackets for every rider, rated for PWC use.
  • Dock lines and fenders if you tie up at a dock.
  • A tow rope and tube for the kids.
  • A battery trickle charger for when the ski sits between rides.
  • A spare lanyard. Lose the only one and your day is over.

Ask us what’s in stock in our accessories range, or take a look at our kayaks if you want something quiet for the days you’re not riding.

Buying a Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale From Us

  1. Pick your model. Use the table above. Note the model name and any colour you prefer.
  2. Contact us. Use the contact form or call or WhatsApp +1 209 690 5983. Tell us the model and where it’s going.
  3. Get your quote. We confirm the ski is in stock, send photos if you want, and give you a price including shipping.
  4. Pay and ship. We prepare the ski and send it with tracking.

Before any Yamaha WaveRunner for sale leaves us, we check the hull for damage, look over the pump and intake, check the seat and hatches, and make sure the keys, lanyard and anything that should come with it are included. Ask for any photos you want before you pay.

Trailers

Need a trailer with your Yamaha WaveRunner for sale? We have boat trailers in stock, and we can quote a ski and trailer together. If you’re buying two WaveRunners, a double trailer is usually the better deal.

Worldwide Shipping for Every Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale

We ship every Yamaha WaveRunner for sale all over the world. A ski goes either in a crate or on a pallet, or in a container if you’re buying more than one. Sea freight is the usual choice for a PWC because of the size. It takes longer than air but costs much less.

The ski is drained of fuel, the battery is disconnected or shipped according to the carrier’s rules, and the hull is protected for the trip. We send the paperwork your customs office needs. Import duty and taxes are set by your country and paid at your end, and some countries also need the ski registered locally, so check with a local agent before it arrives.

If you’re buying several of the same Yamaha WaveRunner for sale, for a rental business or a resort for example, ask us for a container price. It brings the cost per ski down a lot.

Looking After Your WaveRunner

Any Yamaha WaveRunner for sale will last much longer if you look after it. These are the habits that matter most.

  • Flush after salt water. Use the flush port with a hose after every ride in salt or brackish water.
  • Rinse the outside, especially the pump area, to stop salt build-up.
  • Service on schedule. Oil, filter and checks at the intervals in the owner’s manual.
  • Look after the battery. Use a trickle charger if the ski sits for weeks.
  • Check the intake for weed, rocks and rope before you ride. Debris sucked into the pump is the most common cause of damage.
  • Winterise properly if you live somewhere cold.

For safety, read up on the rules where you ride. The US Coast Guard boating safety site covers basics like life jackets and lanyards, and BoatUS has plenty of practical PWC advice. There’s background on the history of these machines on the personal watercraft Wikipedia page, and Yamaha’s WaveRunner site has owner’s manuals.

Questions About a Yamaha WaveRunner for Sale

How many people can ride?

Most Yamaha WaveRunner for sale models in our stock are three-seaters: the EX, VX, FX and GP ranges. The JetBlaster is smaller and best for one or two. Always check the capacity on the ski itself.

Which is the most reliable?

All of them have a strong record. The TR-1 engined EX and VX models are especially simple and economical. The supercharged SVHO models need a bit more attention because of the supercharger, but they’re well proven.

How much does it cost to run?

The EX and VX with the TR-1 engine are the most fuel efficient. The HO and SVHO models use more, especially at full throttle. Your riding style makes a bigger difference than the model.

Can I tow a skier?

Yes, with a three-seater and enough power. A four-cylinder HO or SVHO model does it much more easily than a TR-1. Check local rules first.

Do you sell trailers and covers?

Yes. See our trailers and accessories, or ask us to put a package together.

What’s your return policy?

See our refund and return policy and terms and conditions.
